Something quiet arrived in my inbox last week. A notification that I'd been longlisted in the BBA Photography Prize 2026 - top 50 from a global open call, now in its ninth year at BBA Gallery in Berlin.
I submitted a selection of images from my current project entitled Isolation // Identity (more on this to come). The brief was open. No theme, no medium restrictions. Which, in practice, means the work has to stand on its own without the scaffolding of a prompt.
What I find useful about entering things like this is less about the outcome and more about the discipline of selection. Choosing five images to represent a body of work forces a clarity that editing for yourself rarely does. You have to commit to a position.
Paris has changed how I see. Eight months in, the light is different, the pace of access is different, and the work I'm making reflects that whether I intend it to or not. If those images communicated something to a jury in Berlin, that's enough for now.
